Essential Information
Direct flights to Ponta Delgada (PDL) on São Miguel from Lisbon, Porto, and many European cities. SATA/Azores Airlines connects all nine islands by air.
The Azores are part of Portugal and the EU/Schengen Area. Most nationalities (US, UK, Canada, Australia) enter visa-free for up to 90 days.
Euro (€) is the currency. The Azores are generally 20–30% cheaper than mainland Portugal. Budget €80–120/day for mid-range travel.
Renting a car is strongly recommended on each island — public transport is limited. Roads are in excellent condition. Drive on the right.
Portuguese is the official language. English is widely spoken in tourist areas, hotels, and restaurants.
Weather is changeable and micro-climatic. Pack layers, a light waterproof, and good walking shoes regardless of season.
